PAST VISITORS WROTE:

Carl (Rockett) Hockett chockett@pacbell.net

With 1/5th March/69-Jan/70, HHC motorpool, but on LZ's nearly always (Dolly April until unit move to Quan Loi, what, about September '69?), several out of Quan Loi, finally Mace). Anyone remember "Moon"? Unfortunately that's the only name I can remember, aside from a couple nicknames (like -approximation of vocalization- 'Hyort', derived from name. Others come and go most vaguely into my memory - never good, getting worse. Anyone with possible relevant recollections welcome to contact me. Please. Thx.

I served with Echo recon and commo chief E 1/5th Cav from 10/70 to 3/71. I was wounded in May 70 while with the 5/12th Inf 199th in Cambodia attached to 2nd Bde 1st Cav and was medevac to Song Be then to Long Binh, Camp Zamma, to Fort Riley. I reenlisted from patient status to go back for a 4th tour and was assigned to Echo Recon. My first day out with recon, we had 2 KIA and some wounded when we found the Command group we were looking for. I found out I wasn't in shape yet to be in the field and went to suppy and commo, at FSB Mace. Great men in the Platoon.

Larry, it was awesome to read your description of returning to LZ Dolly. Were you able to take photos? I would love to see them.

Even though I have not played Scrabble since those Dolly Days, I am ready for a "World Class Game of Scrabble" with you at any time. What dictionary will serve as arbiter. Shoot me an email.

Dolly, cont.:

The primary roads thru the towns and villages are paved, though life is still somewhat primitive in the outer areas. The "Michelin" is the Dau Tieng Rubber Plantation. Parts of it are fenced, some not... I had to go into the rubber to experience peace...Amazing!

The jungle terrain past the road at NuiOng, really was familiar. Not scary; just familiar.

One more thing; Hey Jason, How about a game of Scrabble?!

Let's see if this posts.

Visit to Dolly was absolutely surreal. Nui Ong has a paved road to the top, a parking lot on top and bottom, and steps up (or down) the side.

Hey Echo Platoon! Welcome home!

Great website. I found it today when I googled LZ Dolly. I served 6 months there as 1/5 Chaplain's Assistant. During that time, our chaplains were: Chaplain Lamar Hunt, Chaplain Claude Newby and Catholic services were conducted by 2/12 Father Black.

I loved the photos from LZ Dolly. Excellent writing too.
